The text at the top of a puzzle is often called “flavortext” and while it can add flavor and can disguise the fact that you are looking at a puzzle, it can also hold key information or hints as to how to proceed. Reading the flavortext with an open mind may help guide you to a step you hadn’t considered before. In the Baseball Lineup puzzle (found on the puzzles page, the flavortext mentions “America” and the list of players contain something very related to America (something that may have escaped the first reading of the list). The flavortext in that puzzle also mentions a 6-4-3 double play. While seemingly innocuous, this plays a key role in solving the puzzle.
